Giving back: AppLovin’s blood drive with the Red Cross
From inspiring middle schoolers to training rescue dogs, our employees at AppLovin give back in unique ways. A few weeks ago, we hosted our first ever blood drive with the Red Cross and it was a huge success with 31 people donating 23 units of blood.
The idea to host a blood drive with the Red Cross came to me after I was turned away from giving blood because the facility I visited was too backed up. I was told the wait would be up to two hours, which was frustrating as I had taken time off of work and rushed across the city just to be turned away.
I realized others must have had similarly frustrating experiences, so I decided to do something about it. Speaking with a blood drive coordinator, I found out that the Red Cross allows companies and organizations to host blood drives.
As it turns out, San Francisco doesn’t have a permanent blood donation center, so donors have to rely on companies and organizations to host blood drives in order to donate. This was a perfect opportunity for me to give back to the community, because at AppLovin, we’re lucky to have a spacious office in a great location in SOMA.
Working with the Red Cross was really simple. They took care of things like printing signs, staffing the drive, and setting up equipment. All your company or organization needs is to provide a suitable location, help recruit donors, and send donors to the Red Cross site to schedule their appointments. The Red Cross staff was a pleasure to work with, offering quick communication and keeping things on a tight schedule.
